A just hatched chicken comes to visit

We are so lucky to have families who share with us. Nathan's Mum Sally shared a newly hatched chicken with the children. It had only just emerged from it's egg. How special is that!

Sophie's puff painting

This is a simple, cool activity. The puff paint is popped on the cardboard and cooked in the microwave. Very effective. The recipe is on our website under holiday ideas.

Off to assembly at Botany Downs School

It was with great excitement that we used our new gate to Botany Downs School. After singing the National Anthem in Maori and in English it was our slot at assembly. Matthew called Miss Cotman onto the stage and Caitlyn presented her with flowers and we all sang E Tu Kahikatea. Miss Cotman and Room 9 have been been our skype buddies and our buddy class for the past two years. We will really miss her as she leaves Botany Downs School. All the best for your new teaching post in Havelock North Miss Cotman. they are lucky to be getting you.

Matthew's Ghostbuster story

Matthew has not been too interested in literacy until now. At home he asked to write and illustrate this story about the Ghost Busters. Through this interest he is now motivated to write. How awesome is that! We love your story Matthew.

Fathers' Night 2011

What a wonderful evening with sixty two of our Dad's at kindergarten with their children. How proud the children were to have you all to themselves and to show you around kindergarten.

Celebrating Mickey's birthday

The Mole who knew it was none of His Business

If you haven't read this book you just do not know what you are missing. It is one of our children's favourite books ... and we quite like to present it as a puppet show. On this day Matthew was the puppeteer. He had such a strong clear voice as he asked, "did you do this on my head?" There were times when he had trouble getting the words out as he was laughing so much! The children couldn't believe their eyes! There was lots of paki paki for Matthew as he took a bow.

On Friday we swapped kindergartens with Mangere Bridge Kindergarten

Simon's wire creation

This morning we were working with wire and beads. Simon zeroed in right away and spent an hour and a half concentrating, bending and threading. Without any help at all he created this work of art. We thought it was awesome. Mahi pai Simon.

And still the ghostbusters packs emerge

Every day we are blown away by the Ghostbusters backpacks that the children make. We need a constant supply of boxes and long straws ... and the children do all the rest. Then it is off in search of Ghosts and Marshmallow Men.

A family evening at McDonalds

It is often debated whether we should be promoting such a fundraising event ... however we think it is great. The children socialise with their friends and teachers outside their regular setting and this really helps to build relationships back at kindergarten. What a great evening.

Who sank the boat?

That was the question that was asked in the book? It is always a question that evokes different responses in the children as they develop their working theories. We are always careful not to give the children the answer as this does not encourage them to explore the theories further. As we had an abundance of balloons left after our Halloween celebrations yesterday we decided to pop the balloons under the upturned table then see how many children could stand on the upturned table before the balloons popped. I wonder how many children there are on the table?

And here is the news for Tuesday 25th October

Ghost busters continue ...

We wondered if the interest in Ghost Busters would continue after the term break ... and guess what ... it is alive with new energy. Max wasted no time in creating his Ghost Buster pack ... and that inspired a whole new interest in Ghost Busters. Ryan set about filling Kane in on the finer points of making a Ghost Buster pack and caitlyn led the way for the girl. Where will this go, we wonder?
