Sharing knowledge about Anzac Day 2010

Having just celebrated Anzac Day (April 25) we engaged in discussion with the children to discover their understandings related to the day. We found that lots of children were aware of the dawn parades held and that some had even attended. Benjamin told us that his grandfather had been in the war and that he had been shot in the leg, "and he had to spend his whole life with one leg!"

Charlotte and Jemma share their whakapapa

Angela introduces the concept of whakapapa to the morning children

Our student, Angela showed the children how their whakapapa could be represented through a fern frond, with each member of the family taking their place on the stalk of the frond. A search of the environment led to the discovery of the Koru in many places in the kindergarten.

"Learn to Sing' comes to Botany Downs kindergarten

The old adage 'it is not what you know, but who you know' was certainly true today. Sean (one of our children) has a very special aunty called Linda Adamson, and aunty Linda just happens to be pretty famous. She is the performer and producer of wonderful music experiences for children "Love to Learn'. Today was the day that Linda chose to be aunty help and treat us all to a wonderful show of her music. Thank you so much Linda. We loved joining you in all the songs and actions.

Do you recognise any of the people who are dressed in costumes?

We love our guinea pigs

Moustache's presence in our guinea pig grotto is certainly missed. He was such a placid guinea pig. We can only hope that the person/s who took him is caring for him. Feeding the guinea pigs is one of the most popular activities at our kindergarten. They are very much a part of our programme.

Unexpected gifts

Our friend Song Lam donated us some of her son's no longer used toys. The children were really excited to use the Scalectrics. It kept the racers and the specators transfixed. Thanks Song.
